ESD Mats & ESD Accessories

ESD Anti Static MatsAnti Static Mat

As electronic equipment becomes smaller and faster, the hardware is also more susceptible to static shocks. Electro Static Discharge - ESD mats are protective safety matting specially designed to drain static electricity build up on workers that protect them from unpleasant static shocks but also protects sensitive electronic equipment.

The simple act of walking or even sitting can generate several thousand volts of electricity on the human body. If not properly controlled, this static charge can easily discharge. If the discharge was felt, it was probably more than 2000 volts. Most people do not feel an ESD shock unless they are charged to over 4000 V. If you heard it, then it could have been between 3000 - 5000 volts. If you actually saw a small blue spark, it was more than likely in excess of 10,000 volts.

Prevent static build-up and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) with the use of ESD mats and ESD accessories.

ESD stands for electrostatic discharge. An ESD protective mat eliminates some risks when dealing with static electricity. Setting up an ESD work station is easy. If you have bought an ESD Table Mat roll it out on the top of your workbench. Next, connect the table mat to your ground point using our ESD Common Grounding Cord. You can then connect your ESD Wrist Strap to ground with the ESD Coil Cord. You can then lay your ESD mat on the floor below your workstation. Then you can again connect it to ground using the ESD Common Grounding Cord. Make sure to wear the ESD Heel Strap if needed.

Anti Static Mat

An anti static mat lowers the likelihood of electrostatic discharge damaging electrical equipment. The mats work because they have a high resistance to electricity. They let electrostatic discharge flow over there surface at a slow rate. This neutralizes the ESD and leaves whatever is on top on the mat, safe.

People use anti static mats all the time to ensure a safe working environment. You can use them on a desk or on the floor. We sell both varieties. Our desk based anti static mats, are often used for delicate operations. Such as hardware construction and maintenance.

Anti Static Rubber FlooringAnti Static Rubber Flooring

We have a large selection of rubber and rubber nitrite ESD flooring available. For normal electronics assembly any of our ESD mats will do the job. Yet if you are using chemicals or are soldering we would suggest rubber. Rubber is a heavy duty material and is more suited to these aplications.

You need certain accessories when you are setting up an ESD work station. Luckily we sell everything you need to use and maintain your ESD mats. It is importation to keep your ESD mats clean which is why we also sell ESD Mat Cleaner. Your mats are not as effective if they are covered in a layer of dirt.

Anti Static Matting

Anti Static Matting

One of our specialists is modular matting. We sell these are mats separate tiles so that you can connect together. This means we can cover any area in safe and effective ESD matting. We even have a selection of curved ESD mats which you can use to create a walkway or cover irregular areas.

Anti Static Floor Mat

Our anti static floor mats are great at dissipating electricity. We sell standard sizes, rolls and modular systems to suit any need. If you are looking to equip 1 work station I would suggested one of our standard sizes such as the Skystep ESD. This mat is great for individual work stations. If you want to cover a large or irregular aria, our modular options are best.

Anti-static Frequently asked questions

What are Anti Static Mats?

Anti-static mats decrease the possibility of electrostatic discharge. It does this by conducting electricity and diverting it to the ground. These mats are particularly useful when dealing with electromagnetically sensitive objects such as computer components. The mat can be grounded by attaching it to an earthed electrical socket. It is important to realize the component will only be protected when it is resting on the mat itself. If you lift it the protection is removed.

Do Anti Static Mats Need to be Grounded?

If the mat is laid on top of a conducting surface it does not need to be grounded, this is because the electricity with dissipating through the mat, into the floor and then to ground. If your surface is not conducting your mat needs to be grounded.

Do I Need an Anti Static Mat?

You should have an anti-static mat if you are dealing with electromagnetically sensitive components. These include but are not limited to:

  • CPUs and Graphics cards
  • TTL Chips
  • Resistors
  • LEDs

How do You Test an Anti Static Mat?

  1. Lay the mat on a non-conducting surface
  2. Turn on your ESD tester
  3. Place probes on opposing sides of the mat
  4. Repeat the process at different points
  5. If the readings are stable between 1 megohm to 10 gig ohms your mat is safe

Range of Usage Intensity:
The range of ESD mats includes a wide selection of heavy duty matting for tough industrial environments such as assembly lines, work stations and CNC machines to medium and light duty mats for commercial areas, computer rooms, copy machine areas, etc.

Range of Materials:
ESD mats are made from 100% nitrile rubber, laminated top surface or vinyl sponge.

The ESD matting is available in two versions: static dissipative and conductive matting with measured resistance ranging from Rg 106 – 109 and Rp 106 - 109. Matting is available with optional connector cords, grounding plugs, specialized ESD cleaning supplies and other accessories.

Range of Thickness:
The mats range from 9.4 mm thick (lightweight for easy cleaning) to 19 mm thick for ultimate comfort (heavy duty).

Range of Sizes:
Available in standard sizes, full rolls, per linear meter or custom designed matting using modular tiles that can form any shape or size.
